A guide for first-time visitors to Pokhara

Whether you are interested in hiking the Annapurna Circuit, enjoying the lakeside district, or visiting the International Mountain Museum, there is something for everyone. Located on Phewa Lake, Pokhara is the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. The city is also home to the two-story Tal Barahi Temple, which sits on an island in the lake.

Phewa Lake

Among the many beautiful places in Pokhara, the Phewa Lake is a must-visit. It offers a panoramic view of Mount Machhapuchhre and Annapurna range. The best time to visit is during the spring and autumn.

The Phewa Lake is located at the southern part of Pokhara. It is approximately 4 km long and 1.5 km wide. It is home to a temple and a variety of fish. It is also a great place for boating. There are a number of hotels, restaurants and guesthouses at the lakeside.

One of the most important places to visit in Phewa Lake is the Tal Barahi temple. It is a two storey mandir and is considered to be highly sacred. The temple has an idol of the Water Goddess Barahi.

Boudhanath Stupa

Located on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, Boudhanath Stupa in Pokhara is one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist centres. A vast number of Tibetan refugees came to the area in the 1950s, when China invaded Tibet. They chose to stay near Boudanath and set up more than 50 monasteries.

Today, Boudhanath is a popular tourist site. This ancient temple and stupa attract thousands of worshipers daily. There are many historical and mythical stories that surround the site. Some believe that Boudhanath is home to the remains of Kashyapa Buddha, an ancient Buddha.

Other legends say that the stupa holds the bone of Siddhartha Gautama. It is also said that there is a tomb inside the stupa with the bones of Amshuvarm, the first Tibetan Buddhist master.

Pokhara

Annapurna Cable Car

Located in Pokhara, the Annapurna Cable Car offers a convenient, fast, and safe way to travel between the city's lakeside and Sarangkot, the popular view point. The cable car is the first in Nepal and is an alternative to traveling the 45-minute drive from Sedi Khola to Sarangkot.

The cable car will allow you to explore Sarangkot's panoramic Himalayan views, including the clossed Annapurna Mountain Himalayas. The cable car also has an upper station with a large swing and a zip-line for those less adventurous.

This rope car has the capacity to transport up to 1,500 people per hour. The rope car will take passengers 2.3 kilometers to the Sarangkot Hill.

This cable car is one of four ropeways in Nepal, along with the Manakamana Cable Car and Chandragiri Cable Car. The cable car is operated by Annapurna Cable Car Pvt. Ltd. Kalu Gurung, the chairman of the company, says that the Annapurna Cable Car is built using modern technology.

Chitwan National Park

Visiting Chitwan National Park is an exciting experience. It is a world heritage site and a great destination for wildlife viewing. The park contains a diverse assemblage of native fauna and flora. It is also home to the rare Royal Bengal Tiger and one horned rhinoceros.

The park is situated in the western Terai region of Nepal. It is equidistant from Pokhara and Kathmandu, and a popular detour when traveling through the country.

The waterfall is named after a Swiss tourist who lost his life in 1961. The waterfall is the result of a series of underground passages connected by a pit. The water tunnel is more than 500 feet long.
