St. Mary's Basilica
Located in Shivajinagar, Bangalore, St Mary's Basilica is one of the oldest churches in the state of Karnataka. It is constructed in Gothic style and features stained glass windows and arches. Originally built as a small chapel in 1818, it was converted into an ornate Gothic-style church in 1882 by Reverend L.E. Kleiner.
The chapel was built by Christians from Tamil Nadu, who settled in the Cantonment area. The church was originally known as the "Chapel of our Lady of the Presentation." In the 18th century, Italian Jesuits of the Malabar Mission established the Mysore Mission. They were succeeded by French Jesuits from the Madura Mission.
The present church was reconstructed during the years 1856-1882. It was consecrated on September 8, 1882, by 35 priests. It was elevated to minor basilica status by Pope Paul VI in 1973.
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath
Founded in 1964 by Professor Nanjunda Rao, the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath is an art complex and a cultural organization that promotes Indian culture and science in the fastest growing part of the world. It houses several museums and galleries that showcase a wide variety of art works. The parishath also hosts an open-air theatre that caters to both performing artists and visual artists. The museum has a permanent collection of sculptures.
Located in Bengaluru, the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat is an art district that displays a vast array of sculptures, paintings, ceramics, textiles, and leather puppets. A large portion of the works on display are made by Parishat students.
Vidhan Soudha
Located on Dr Ambedkar Rd, Vidhan Soudha is an important landmark in Bangalore. This building houses the Legislative Chambers of the Karnataka government. It is also the state secretariat. The architectural beauty of this building is unique and draws many people.
The central dome of the building is sixty feet in diameter. It is topped with a roof which is also used as the state banquet hall. It is a combination of neo-Dravidian and Indio-Islamic architecture styles. The building is made of Banglaore granite. It is excavated from Hessaraghatta and Mallasandra.
There are twelve columns which are twelve metres tall. The total floor area of the building is 505,505 square feet. There are four smaller domes.
HAL Aerospace Museum
Located within the premises of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Bangalore HAL Aerospace Museum is one of the most visited attractions in the city. The museum houses a vast collection of aircraft, engine models and other related items. The museum also features a gift shop with aviation-related gifts and souvenirs.
The Aerospace Museum is a good place to learn about the history of India's aviation. The museum explains the functioning of different types of aero engines and explains the evolution of aeronautics. The museum has two halls, each containing displays dedicated to different parts of the aviation industry.
The first hall contains information about the evolution of aeronautics. The second hall contains real models of various aircrafts. These include helicopters, fighter planes and commercial aircraft.
