St. Mary's Basilica

Located in Shivajinagar, Bangalore, St Mary's Basilica is one of the oldest churches in the state of Karnataka. It is constructed in Gothic style and features stained glass windows and arches. The chapel was built by Christians from Tamil Nadu, who settled in the Cantonment area. The church was originally known as the "Chapel of our Lady of the Presentation." In the 18th century, Italian Jesuits of the Malabar Mission established the Mysore Mission. They were succeeded by French Jesuits from the Madura Mission.

The present church was reconstructed during the years 1856-1882. It was consecrated on September 8, 1882, by 35 priests. It was elevated to minor basilica status by Pope Paul VI in 1973.

Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath

Founded in 1964 by Professor Nanjunda Rao, the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath is an art complex and a cultural organization that promotes Indian culture and science in the fastest growing part of the world.
